STEWARDSHIP
Stewardship, A Way of Life at St. Isidore

With the encouragement of Fr. Daniel E. Cardelli, Pastor Emeritus and our Parish Finance Committee, our parish began an on-going effort to educate ourselves about stewardship in the Catholic Church during the fall of 2000, and it continues today with our current guidance of Fr. Gerard K. Moran, Pastor.  Our Stewardship effort promises to be an important means of spiritual growth for our parishioners, and should enable us to plan more effectively for the future.  Though new for many Catholics, stewardship is based on a Biblical view of God as Creator with ourselves as servants.  From this perspective we are encouraged to develop or renew the practice of regularly reflecting on God's love for us as reflected in the goodness of our lives.  With a sure sense of our blessings in mind we are encouraged to make gratitude the fundamental motive for our giving.  The Bible also reminds us that as servants we are accountable to God for our use (stewardship) of the gifts of time, talent, and treasure that we have received.  While our parish has many particular needs for which funds must be raised, we must continue to reflect on the fact that stewardship is much different than fund-raising.  Stewardship is rooted in one indisputable need - the personal, Gospel based need for each one of us to give.  Our gratitude can so easily become a matter of words only, unless we are returning to the Lord, the giver of all gifts, a truly grateful share of our time, talent, and treasure.  With such an attitude, our families and parish's present needs will be met, and there will be a surplus for the future.  Such an attitude is a faith decision rooted in trust that what is left over after we have first given to God will be enough.  Over time few practices deepen faith more effectively than this decision to really put God first in our lives.  All parish members are encouraged to pray for each other that we might receive the grace of understanding to know how God is calling each of us to be stewards, the grace of wisdom to know what we have to give and the grace of courage to trust that we will be blessed in our giving.

Capital Campaign

In September of 1996, St. Isidore began a pledge campaign to expand our parish facilities. The Capital Campaign was designated to finance the construction of eight new classrooms, a computer and a science lab, an enrichment room and a two-room kindergarten and play area for the school.  Three parcels of land (2.2 acres) were purchased directly across the street from the church and the Parish Ministry Center and the Rettig Activities Center (a double gymnasium with a fully appointed stage) were built.  Through the generosity of our parishioners, over $9.0 million was pledged over a five-year period.  During the five years of our project, St. Isidore continued to grow and so did our needs.  In the spring and summer of 2000 we were fortunate to be able to purchase two additional parcels adjacent to the Parish Ministry Center.  Babysitting and extended care for St. Isidore School students are now housed in the Kids Konnection building.  Our Youth Ministry and other parish groups now have the added availability of the Youth Center for meeting and other events.  The total cost of our parish facilities expansion ultimately rose to $11.0 million.  Our Capital Campaign began a special investment by parishioners in the future development of our parish which we all share in today as an on-going responsibility.  We did a lot in a short amount of time and we will complete our expansion project only when we fully repay our parish debt.  As a parishioner for many years, or as one of our newest members, we all share in the benefits of our building program, and we are invited to participate in this continuing parish commitment. Stewardship will also help us to better focus our resources on maintaining and developing the quality of services and programs needed in our parish.

A Guide for Making Your Stewardship Intention

While your commitment to giving is important for a vital parish life, FIRST spend some time experiencing our parish activities, taking part in our Sunday Liturgies and talking with other parishioners.  SECONDLY, think about what you expect from your parish, and the gift of your time and talent as an investment in St. Isidore.  FINALLY, think about what's really possible, listen to your heart, and challenge yourself to grow.  Many find little or no time left at the end of the day.  That is why it is so important for you to plan when and how you can share your time and talent with your Parish and those in need.  Your gift of treasure should also fully express your gratitude to God for all you have received.  We encourage you to use the GUIDE FOR WEEKLY GIVING shown below to determine an appropriate level of support you wish to return to St. Isidore throughout the year.

Special Gifts

Most often special gifts are made for one of the following reasons.  A particularly good way to give one of these is to order one of our special commemorative bricks which are located in and around Piazza Cardelli in the courtyard of our Parish Ministry and Rettig Activities Center.
The addition of our new Memorial Rose Garden is another opportunity for donations or to give that very special gift of Roses, Benches, or Stations of the Cross.  Engraved plaques are included with each donation and brochures are available in the Parish Offices for you to reserve your preferences.  The Rose Garden is located directly behind the Rettig Activities Center and the response from Parishioners has been enthusiastic.  If you haven't done so, take the time to visit as the Roses are in full, beautiful bloom from Easter through All Saints and then is a great time to see them.
